Light of Life Fellowship (Italy)
CONSOLATO
D'ITALIA
IN DETROIT
Associated Retinal Consultants offer a unique Fellowship opportunity, sponsored
by the Michigan Chapter of ANFE (Association of Italian Immigrant Families)
under the auspices of the Consulate of Italy in Detroit, in accordance with the
Memorandum of Understanding signed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services and the Italian Ministry of Health on April 17 2003: “The Light of
Life Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery”.
This
Fellowship consists of a two-year program, with twelve months of anticipated
attendance spread out over a two year period to provide a graduated experience
to convey the expertise necessary for clinical decision-making and other aspects
of eye care, including surgical and non-surgical diagnostic and therapeutic
modalities. The schedule is designed to accommodate the needs of clinicians to
return home to Italy, with each visit representing a new and distinct module
focusing on a different aspect of pediatric vitreoretinal disease. The
fellowship is observational – no responsibility for medical or surgical patient
care is assumed by the Fellow.
Applications for the Fellowship will be evaluated by a committee comprised of
two designated ROPARD members and two ANFE
(Michigan Chapter) members, with the Consul of Italy in Detroit as an honorary
member without a voting capacity. Each year the committee will determine the
number of Fellowships to be assigned and the graded list of winners.
